Sedation Dentistry is a wonderful new aspect of modern dental care, practiced by highly trained doctors who can help patients to virtually sleep through their procedures. This treatment option can help those with dental fears, turn multiple appointments into a single visit, and even help patients who have difficulty with conventional anesthesia. It’s an option for many patients – ask the doctors about incorporating “relaxation dentistry” into your next appointment.

Oral Sedation

Dentistry like it never happened

Patients simply take a little pill prior to treatment, leaving them completely relaxed and extremely comfortable. Our team monitors your vital signs constantly and you are never left alone. You will still be awake enough to respond to the doctor, but will essentially sleep though the entire appointment. Due to the pleasantly relaxing effects of the medication, you should have someone drive you to and from the appointment.

IV Sedation

Intravenous (IV) sedation is a “moderate conscious sedation” whereby the medication is administered directly into a patient’s bloodstream. This type of sedation is not as commonly available as other sedation techniques; Dr. Mowery has received specialized advance training and is certified by the state Board of Dental Examiners as an IV sedation dentist.

IV sedation is a safe and effective treatment option for patients with moderate to severe anxiety issues. The patient’s heart rate, breathing and blood pressure are closely monitored during their visit, and when the procedure is completed, patients who choose IV sedation are asked to have a friend or family member drive them home.

There are many advantages of IV sedation, including:

  • The medication acts quickly to sedate the patient unlike oral medications whick can take an hour or more to take effect.
  • If necessary during treatment, the dentist can administer more medication directly through the IV, instantly enhancing the sedation.
  • Patients will have little or no memory of their treatment.

Will I feel anything?

“Sedation dentistry” dramatically reduces the body’s natural tendency to tense muscles while stressed, helping you to feel relaxed and at ease. Dental anesthetics are more effective while the body is relaxed, practically eliminating any concerns about discomfort during treatment. Your postoperative discomfort can be treated with simple over the counter and prescription medications.

Who can benefit from Sedation Dentistry?

All sorts of patients can benefit, do you:

  • Have excess fears about dental appointments?
  • Have difficulty achieving sufficient numbness?
  • Have a strong gag reflex?
  • Have highly sensitive teeth?
  • Dislike the noises and smells associated with the dental office?
  • Hate needles and shots?
  • Have complex dental problems that will otherwise take several visits to complete?
  • Wish to have a comprehensive smile redesign or surgical need?
