By age 17, 7\npercent of people in the United States have lost at least one permanent tooth\ndue to decay, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. By\nage 50, 69 percent of adults have lost at least one permanent tooth. Why is\ntooth loss so prevalent? The biggest reason, even more so than injury, is tooth\ndecay caused by not taking proper care of teeth. Plaque can accumulate on your\nteeth, tongue, and gums overnight. When you don\u2019t brush away plaque in the\nmorning, it hardens into tartar, which can only be removed by a dental\nprofessional. Tartar can lead to gum disease and also cause a serious case of\n\u201cmorning breath.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Don\u2019t Overbrush <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Brushing more than twice a day can actually wear down your\nenamel, exposing the layer of dentin underneath. Dentin houses tubes that are\nconnected to the nerves of your teeth, making them more sensitive to extreme\ntemperatures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Don\u2019t Brush Too Hard <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Enamel is strong, but it can be worn down with years of\naggressive brushing. Brushing too hard can result in sensitivity. Think of\nbrushing more like polishing an eggshell rather than scrubbing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Floss Every Day <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Flossing removes plaque from between your teeth. Neglecting\nto floss means that tartar can build up and cause gum infections. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6. Avoid Soda <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Even if you opt for diet soda, its high level of acidity can\nerode your enamel. To avoid sensitivity issues in the future, limit your\nconsumption of soda and other acidic foods and beverages. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">7.
